Dear Running
Hey there running, it’s been awhile. I can’t wait to start running again. But I think we need to extend our break. It’s not that I don’t want to run any races again.
Look, I’m forever grateful for what you’ve done. You helped me get things into perspective, you’ve helped me lose weight, you’ve helped me make some amazing new friends but we’ve got to take some more time apart. I’m just so tired and I need some time to heal.
We had some good times at the beginning, I kept hitting PRs at every race and then I got those amazing medals from Run Disney. Plus those really cool photos from the Inaugural Avengers Half.
But those early waking up at 2-3am to get to the start lines by 3-4am have got to stop. I’m so tired. I’m getting older. I just can’t right now.
But let’s take a look back at the things that were amazing.
Remember when I made it to the podium several times in my age group? It’s amazing that I ran fast enough to earn extra medals that had placement finishes on them. Oh and remember when I lucked into this amazing photo?
But the past few races have come and gone this year and the good is no longer outweighing the bad. I’m just not enjoying the races as much as I used to. I just don’t like going to bed early to wake up when it’s still late night for most people and then running a race before the sun comes up.
Also, the injuries are getting to me. First it was the IT band at the Rock and Roll LA Half, then it was the IT band again before Rock and Roll Seattle. Then it was the bone bruise right before Rock and Roll Denver. Then it was the knee issues right before Avengers. Honestly I need to assess my body and figure out what it’s going to take to do more of these races.
And this year in 2018 it was just time to take a break. After having bad experiences at local races, then having a tough time at the LA Marathon and then the humidity that nearly took me out of Star Wars Half. I’m thankful but I have to say, “thank u, next.”
Which now gives me a great idea for a new item…
Stay tuned.
